In every Trip Report you will see this warning:
If you're getting the impression we want you to be careful, you're right.
Cool Trails is an information repository for outdoor recreationists. Most of the activities described in Cool Trails text are inherently dangerous (e.g., mountaineering, hiking, kayaking, etc.). For that matter, driving to the store is also dangerous. Still, every year, many people are hurt and some die while participating in outdoor activities. Each participant (including you) is solely responsible for using his/her judgment in using the information found on Cool Trails in a safe and prudent manner.
COOL TRAILS MAY NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS, DAMAGE, INJURY, ILLNESS, OR DEATH THAT MAY RESULT FROM THE PURSUIT OF OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES DISCUSSED ON THE COOL TRAILS WEB SITE OR IN THE COOL TRAILS NEWSLETTER, COOL NEWS. COOL TRAILS LLC EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL LIABILITY RELATED THERETO. YOU AGREE TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD HARMLESS COOL TRAILS LLC, ITS SUPPORTERS, SUPPLIERS AND REPORTERS AGAINST ANY AND ALL CLAIMS OR LITIGATION RESULTING FROM YOUR USE OF THE INFORMATION FOUND ON THIS WEB SITE OR IN COOL NEWS.
If you are not comfortable with your ability to navigate and survive in the wilderness, we encourage you to contact an outdoor activity organization or trail club, such as the Mountaineers. They offer guided, group outings, and courses. You'll find a list of such organizations on GORP.
The information maintained on Cool Trails comes primarily from volunteer Reporters and Forest/Park Service news releases. While we make every effort to ensure that the information is accurate and up-to-date, neither we nor they assume any liability for errors or omissions. A current guidebook and proper equipment are a must for full enjoyment of the outdoors. Also, before visiting any recreation area, contact the managing agency directly to verify fees, opening and closing dates, restrictions and policies, road and access information, etc. Cool Trails suggests books, lists gear, and provides a phone directory for its visitors.
Privacy is a big issue on the web. Cool Trails gathers only the information we need to send out the newsletter and publish your trip reports. We do not share that information with anyone outside of Cool Trails, and we do not use that information to send you unrelated solicitations.
Money Cool Trails is a hype-free, ad-free, completely free web site. We are funded by the generosity of certain private supporters, and from referral commissions on the sale of books and other products we recommend on Cool Trails. Your loyalty purchases keep Cool Trails free.
