Day Three: EXPLORE OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST
For a true sense of just how rugged Sequim is, a visit to
Olympic National Forest
is needed. Sequim is located between two main trailheads within the forest: the Gray Wolf and the
Dungeness trails. Before heading out, stop at the Sequim Visitor Center to purchase the required
day-hike parking pass.
Drive along Palo Alto or Louella roads for about 8.1 miles to reach the Dungeness Trail. To access the Gray Wolf trailhead, travel about 7.7 miles along Taylor Cut-off and
Lost Mountain roads.
Both trails provide enjoyable easy hikes. Olympic National Forest officials allow mountain bikes on several trails.
Stop at the Sequim Visitor Center, 1192 E. Washington St., to buy a day-hike parking pass ($3) and view a detailed biking trails map. This gives you permission to park your car at the trailhead in the National Forest Service areas.
