Hiking Olympic National Park By Erik Molvar Fairholm Campground Trail This quiet pathway begins across the Camp David Jr. Road from the Fairholm Campground and wanders through the dense lowland forest to the west of Lake Crescent. The trail begins by ascending moderately through a forest of mature hemlock and Douglas fir, intermixed with a scarring of red cedar. The shade-loving saplings of hemlock dominate the understory, and will ultimately dominate the forest over the course of centuries. After 0.6 mile, the trail returns to the road, which can be followed southward for 0.2 mile to complete the loop.
