WHERE IS IT SAFE TO PARK ?

The ONLY worrisome parking areas are at Third beach and possibly at Rialto. THIRD BEACH IS A DANGEROUS PARKING AREA - It is the northern access point to the Southern Beach Trails - BUT - The wind travels from North to South so USUALLY you will want to park at OIL CITY and start at Third Beach anyhow - so parking at THIRD BEACH should be avoided for many reasons. Rialto is the Southern end of the Northern Beach Trails and has had a FEW problems but is only a minor problem area. TO MY KNOWLEDGE - THESE 2 AREAS ARE THE ONLY PARKING AREAS TO EXPERIENCE ANY PROBLEMS.

QUESTIONS ABOUT HOW TO GET HERE

Should we fly into Port Angeles or Seattle ?

Horizon Air has canceled flights into Port Angeles as of late 2003 so until something else develops - your only choice is to fly into Seattle. Hotels are cheaper in PORT ANGELES or FORKS and considering hotel charges, and restaurants - staying in Port Angeles MAY BE cheaper.

Driving directions ?

If you go to DRIVING DIRECTIONS you will find directions to/from SEATAC airport and Seattle and detailed directions to all trailheads. If you check out the various trail reviews - there is link to directions to each trailhead. Check out my driving directions page - eventually it will show all important info about highways on peninsula milepost by milepost

By Bus ?

You can get from Seattle Airport (SEATAC) to Hoh Rain Forest for $5 and 1 easy hitchhike ride. You can get to Port Angeles from Seattle or Airport for under $50 per person. If you are on budget and want to avoid renting car or using me - please e-mail me and I will help you decipher the bus routes. Go to BY BUS if you already know area and want to use our great public transit system.

QUESTIONS ABOUT TRAILS

Do we have to worry about bugs on hike ?

...YES
- Depends on when and where you hike - BUT YES - bugs are a problem. My IN DEPTH TRAIL REVIEWS shows personal journals and published articles about each trail. Check out their advice or check HINTS section of my site for info on bugs. But Bug Spray is almost as important to remember as binoculars and duct tape. But on the plus side = there are no poisonous snakes, spiders etc. here.

Do not walk behind me, for I may not lead.......Do not walk ahead of me, for I may not follow.......Do not walk beside me either.
Just pretty much leave me the hell alone.
