My great-grandfather dentist, Dr. Dean, settled in Port Angeles a century ago. His daughter, Genevieve, (my grandma ) was a free-lance hobby writer and wrote this account, based on memory and research 40 years ago. At that time, I lived with my grandparents while studying at Peninsula College. I would sometimes drive her around to interview people for her stories and gather photos from the likes of Bert Kellogg (Historical Peninsula photographer/collector) and so on. Anyway, I've scanned this old article to JPEGs and hopefully clicking on the pages and then clicking on magnifying glass cursor will make them readable. (I even got a cameo mention near the end of the story.

It was published by True West magazine in June of 1973. My grandmother also contributed chapters in two Clallam County history books with: Jimmy Come Lately and Sturdy Folk.
