FURNITURE POLISH

Source is from one of many sites on the Internet that are not copyrighted.

Revitalize dull candles. Spray on a cloth and wipe the candles thoroughly.

Keep ski goggles from fogging up. Spray the inside of the lens, then wipe clean.

Polish leather shoes. Spray on shoes and shine with a cloth.

Prevent stains on kitchen drain boards. Coat rubber drain board trays with a light application.

Sweep up dust and dirt with ease. Spray the bristles of your broom or mop before sweeping.

Prevent water spots and soap scum on shower walls and doors. Coat the tile walls with furniture polish and wipe clean. You can also use car polish or baby oil.

Make cleaning grease splatters on the wall behind the stove easier. First, clean the painted wall behind your stove. Then spray the entire area with a generous coat of furniture polish and buff well with paper towels. You will then be able to wipe future grease splatters away easily with a dry sheet of paper towels.

Has your sliding glass door stopped sliding? Spray your door tracks with aerosol furniture polish. The wax in the polish reduces friction plus it won't attract dirt.

Repel spiders When the spider trainer for the movie "Arachniphobia" wanted to direct his spiders, he used lemon pledge sprayed on areas he wanted the spiders to avoid.

HOME REMEDIES ETC.

These are a collection of remedies taken from various non-copyrighted web sites and some that were sent to Elder Bob in E-Mails.

......Put some water in a WHITE dinner plate and add a couple of drops of Lemon Fresh Joy dish detergent. Set the dish on your porch, patio, or other outdoor area if there are a lot of mosquitos buzzing around. I'm not sure what attracts them, the lemon smell, the white plate color, or what, but the mosquitoes will flock to it, and drop dead shortly after drinking the Lemon Fresh Joy/water mixture, and usually within about 10 feet of the plate.

......Bob, a fisherman, takes one vitamin B-1 tablet a day April through October . He said it works. He was right. Hasn't had a mosquito bite in 33 years. Try it. Every one he has talked into trying it works on them. Vitamin B-1( Thiamine Hydrochloride 100 mg.)

......This is going to floor you, but one of the best insect repellants someone found (who is in the woods every day), is Vick's Vaporub

......Plant marigolds around the yard, the flowers give off a smell that bugs do not like, so plant some in that garden also to help ward off bugs without using insecticides

......"Tough guy" Marines who spend a great deal of time "camping out" say that the very best mosquito repellant you can use is Avon Skin-So-Soft bath oil mixed about half and half with alcohol

......One of the best natural insect repellants that I've discovered is made from the clear real vanilla. This is the pure Vanilla. It works great for mosquitoes and ticks, don't know about other insects.

......Cleaning liquid that doubles as bug killer .... If menacing bees, wasps, hornets, or yellow jackets get in your home and you can't find the insecticide, try a spray of Formula 409. Insects drop to the ground instantly.

......Balm for broken blisters.....To disinfect a broken blister, dab on a few drops of Listerine .... a powerful antiseptic. Heinz vinegar to heal bruises...Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the blueness and speeds up the healing process.

......Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately without the unpleasant side effects caused by traditional pain relievers.

......For bee stings and other insect bites, carry some small ammonia ampoules (glass vial containing ammonia wrapped in gauze and cotton) with you. Besides being used as a smelling salt, crush the vial and rub the liquid on the sting. The ammonia neutralizes the venom and reduces the swelling if done right away. Check the drug stores or funeral homes for them.

......Buddy burner (fire starter) -- take a tuna fish can or small pineapple can with the lid cut off. Cut a strip of corrugated cardboard a little less wide then the height of the can. Coil the cardboard loosely in the can leaving space between the coils. Add melted paraffin (canning wax) to the can to just below the top of the cardboard. Then when you need a quick source of heat for emergency hot drink, light the cardboard and it will burn like a candle. Also can be used as a fire starter. Light it and put wood or twigs over it. Hard to put out once it starts to burn.

......Did you know that Colgate toothpaste makes an excellent salve for burns.

......Before you head to he drugstore for a high-priced inhaler filled with mysterious chemicals, try chewing on a couple of curiously strong Altoids peppermints. They'll clear up your stuffed nose.

......Achy muscles from a bout of the flu? Mix 1 Tablespoon of horseradish in 1/2 cup of olive oil. Let the mixture sit for 30 minutes, then apply it as a massage oil, for instant relief for aching muscles.

......Sore Throat?? Just mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 Tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.

......Cure urinary tract infections with alka-seltzer. Just dissolve two tablets in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly even though the product has never been advertised for this use.

......Eliminate puffiness under your eyes.....All you need is a dab of preparation H, carefully rubbed into the skin, avoiding the eyes. The hemorrhoid ointment acts as a vasoconstrictor, relieving the swelling instantly.

......Honey remedy for Skin Blemishes......Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a band-aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds healing. It works overnight.

......Listerine therapy for toenail fungus .... Get rid of unsightly toenail fungus by soaking your toes in Listerine mouthwash. The powerful antiseptic leaves your toenails looking healthy again.

......Easy eyeglass protection .... To prevent the screws in eyeglasses from loosening, apply a small drop of Maybelline Crystal Clear nail polish to the threads of the screws before tightening them.

......Coca-Cola cure for rust...Forget those expensive rust removers. Just saturate an abrasive sponge with Coca Cola and scrub the rust stain. The phosphoric acid in the coke is what gets the job done.

......Smart splinter remover.....just pour a drop of Elmer's Glue-all over the splinter, let dry, and peel the dried glue off the skin. The splinter sticks to the dried glue.

......Hunt's tomato paste boil cure .... Cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

......Kills fleas instantly. Dawn dishwashing liquid does the trick. Add a few drops to your dog's bath and shampoo the animal thoroughly. Rinse well to avoid skin irritations. Good-bye fleas

......Rainy day cure for dog, next time your dog comes in from the rain, simply wipe down the animal with Bounce or any dryer sheet, instantly making your dog smell springtime fresh.

......Eliminate ear mites .... All it takes is a few drops of Wesson corn oil in your cat's ear. Massage it in, then clean with a cotton ball. Repeat daily for 3 days. The oil soothes the cat's skin, smothers the mites, and accelerates healing.

......Vaseline cure for hair balls ..... To prevent troublesome hair balls, apply a dollop of Vaseline petroleum jelly to your cat's nose. The cat will lick off the jelly, lubricating any hair in its stomach so it can pass easily through the digestive system.

......Quaker Oats for fast pain relief .... It's not for breakfast anymore! Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm in the microwave for 1 minute, cool slightly, and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.

RACISTS... WHEN WILL WE FINALLY BE RID OF THEM ????
MAYBE SOON...I HOPE THIS IS A TRUE STORY

Source is from one of many sites on the Internet that are not copyrighted.
http://www.robertlo.com/images/Others/ThinkDifferently.pdf

The following scene took place on a BA flight between Johannesburg and London.

A white woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man.

Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air Hostess.

Madam, what is the matter?" the hostess asked.

You obviously do not see it then?" she responded. "You placed me next to a black man. I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat."

"Be calm please", the hostess replied. Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available." The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later...."Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class."

Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued......"It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone sooooo disgusting."

She turned to the black man, and said. "Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please take your hand luggage because a seat awaits you in the first class. "

At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

READ BEFORE YOU SIGN !!!!!!!

Source is from one of many sites on the Internet that are not copyrighted.

This is to all of you that signed up for the "do not call" law. This week I received a card in the mail that looked all right-- It said "vote for your favorite cola - Pepsi or Coke- and receive a complementary 12 pack"

It didn't look suspicious--but for some reason I kept looking at it.

THEN I FOUND IT !! At the bottom of the card here is a VERY small statement. It is SO small it is hard to read--but here is what it says----

" By completing this form, you agree that sponsors and co-sponsors of this offer may telephone you,
even if your number is found on a do not call registry or list "

Just think how many people will send this in and their do not call registry will be NO GOOD. The company's name is MARKET SOLUTION . I think this is just one example of what we will get in the future--so READ EVERYTHING before you SIGN AND SEND !!

It's strong, and will pull the splinter out with one pull!

11) We all know tomato paste is cooked to a boil...but used "FOR" a boil??? Cover the boil with Hunt's tomato paste as a compress. The acids from the tomatoes soothe the pain and bring the boil to a head.

These fun recipes are easy to make, and are a great idea for crafters to add to their inventory of crafts to sell at craft sales or fundraisers. Enjoy!

Herbal Cold Relief Cream Bath

2 drops lavender
2 drops rosemary
2 drops eucalyptus

Add drops of essential oils to 2 teaspoons milk or cream. Pour into a warm bath and soak.

Herbal Freshness Mouthwash Recipe This will leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean, and your breath will be minty-clean.

2 T fresh parsley
2 T fresh mint
1 cup boiling water
1 tablespoon vodka

Combine all ingredients and let sit and steep for about an hour. Allow the mixture to cool. Pour the steeped mixture in a blender and process until well blended. Strain through a piece of cheesecloth so that it's a clear liquid. Use as you would normal mouth wash - gargling with it for about half a minute after you brush and floss your teeth. Do not swallow!

Homemade Shaving Cream

1/4 cup stearic acid
2 Tbsp canola oil
1 cup hot water
1 tsp borax power
2 Tbsp grated soap (scentless)

Melt stearic acid and canola oil in double boiler until clear liquid forms. In a bowl, mix hot water, borax, and soap and stir until the borax and soap are dissolved. Pour the soap solution into a blender and blend well for about 1 minute. Slowly pour the melted canola oil mixture into the soap solution. Blend on high until a smooth cream forms. Nail Whitener

1 denture tablet
1 cup warm water

Old-Fashioned Tooth Powder

2 Tbsp dried lemon or orange rind
1/4 cup baking soda
2 Tsp salt

Place rinds in food processor, grind until peel becomes a fine powder. Add baking soda and salt then process a few seconds more until you have a fine powder. Store in an airtight tin or jar. Dip moistened toothbrush into mixture, brush as usual.

Spiced Rum Cologne for Men (This is Yumy!)

1 Ounce Bacardi 151 Rum
15 drops Rose Fragrance Oil
15 drops Cinnamon Fragrance Oil
10 drops Sandalwood Fragrance Oil

Combine ingredients in bottle and shake well.

Sugar Leg Wax

2 C sugar
1/4 C lemon juice
1/4 C water
2 tbsp vegetable glycerine
waxing cloth strips (buy at the drugstore) OR use strips of linen cut to the size of these strips
wooden popsicle sticks (to stir the wax and to apply)

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan. Stir frequently while heating to 250 degrees F or softball stage. Pour into jars and cover with lids. If you use plastic jars, you'll be able to microwave this mixture instead of heating it on the stove. That's it!! You just made your own leg wax/sugar that you'd pay $20 for in the stores!

To use the Sugar Wax: Heat in the microwave for ten seconds on high. Using a wooden stir stick, stir VERY well. It should be warm but not HOT. Please be very careful when heating up this wax as it's very easy to burn yourself. If the wax isn't warm enough, place it back in the microwave for five seconds, and stir again. Remember, this is hot sugar syrup, if it gets too hot you'll be badly burned.

Lightly powder the area to be treated. Spread a thin layer of the wax on in the same direction as the hair grows. Apply the waxing cloth strip over the applied wax, and rub down well to get the wax to stick to the cloth. Pull your skin taut, and in one quick motion pull the fabric off of your skin AGAINST the direction of hair growth. Continue with the other areas of your leg or wherever you're waxing.

When you're done waxing a complete area, rub in lotion, aloe vera gel (fresh is best) or oil to soothe your legs. You can use the homemade waxing strips again if you soak it in soapy water to dissolve the sugar off the fabric and then toss it in with your wash as normal.

EMERGENCY KIT

Source is from one of many sites on the Internet that are not copyrighted.

As a general rule, a disaster supplies kit contain the following:

1. 3-day supply of water (1 gallon of water per person per day)

2. 3-day supply of ready-to-eat canned food

3. First-aid kit

4. Tools and supplies (including such items as a radio, flashlight, batteries, and fire extinguisher)

5. Clothing and bedding

6. Any special items for children, elderly, or disabled family members

7. Important documents (family records, wills, passports, financial account numbers)

If you don't want to assemble your own, there are plenty of retailers, both online and off, who sell such kits. Just make sure to check the contents of the kit and add any items you may need. Besides assembling an emergency kit, the Red Cross also recommends you and your family: create an emergency communications plan; establish a meeting place; if you have school-age children, familiarize yourself with the emergency plan of the school your children attend.

Threats of terrorism aside, it's a good idea to have a kit and plan in place in case of earthquakes, fires, floods, or other emergencies. One final note -- in case of any emergency, your best defense is remaining calm and clearheaded.

HOUSEHOLD HINTS - 2

These are a collection of hints taken from various non-copyrighted web sites and some that were sent to Elder Bob in E-Mails.

Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.

Store your opened chunks of cheese in aluminum foil. It will stay fresh much longer and not mold!

Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.

Add a teaspoon of water when frying ground beef. It will help pull the grease away from the meat while cooking.

To really make scrambled eggs or omelets rich add a couple of spoonfuls of sour cream, cream cheese, or heavy cream in and then beat them up.

For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Add garlic immediately to a recipe if you want a light taste of garlic and at the end of the recipe if your want a stronger taste of garlic.

Leftover snickers bars from Halloween make a delicious dessert. Simply chop them up with the food chopper. Peel, core and slice a few apples. Place them in a baking dish and sprinkle the chopped candy bars over the apples. Bake at 350 for 15 minutes!!! Serve alone or with vanilla ice cream. Yummm!

Reheat Pizza
Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. I saw this on the cooking channel and it really works.

Easy Deviled Eggs
Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze mixture into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

Expanding Frosting
When you buy a container of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can double it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and calories per serving.

Reheating refrigerated bread
To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

Newspaper weeds away
Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers, put layers around the plants overlapping as you go. Cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

Broken Glass
Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

No More Mosquitoes
Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep the mosquitoes away. (This works!)

Squirrel Away!
To keep squirrels from eating your plants, sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

Flexible vacuum
To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

Reducing Static Cling
Pin a small safety pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ... ta da! .... static is gone.

Measuring Cups
Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Next, add your ingredient, such as peanut butter, and watch how easily it comes right out. (Or spray the measuring cup or spoon with Pam before using)

Foggy Windshield?
Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works better than a cloth!

Reopening envelopes
If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two. Viola! It unseals easily.

Conditioner
Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's cheaper than shaving cream and leaves your legs really smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

Goodbye Fruit Flies
To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass, fill it 1/2' with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid; mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

Get Rid of Ants
Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it 'home,' can't digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have the worry about pets or small children being harmed!

Info about clothes dryers
The heating unit went out on my dryer! The gentleman that fixes things around the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I always clean the lint from the filter after every load clothes.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink and ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material .. I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well ... the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't SEE the film, but it's there. It's what is in the drye r sheets to make your clothes soft and static free ... that nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box .... well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to potentially burn your house down with it! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very longtime (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer at least twice as long! How about that!?! Learn something new everyday! I certainly didn't know dryer sheets would do that. So, I thought I'd share!

Note: I went to my dryer and tested my screen by running water on it. The water ran through a little bit but mostly collected all the water in the mesh screen. I washed it with warm soapy water and a nylon brush and I had it done in 30 seconds. Then when I rinsed it .. the water ran right thru the screen! There wasn't any puddling at all! That repairman knew what he was talking about!

HOUSEHOLD HINTS - 3

These are a collection of hints taken from various non-copyrighted web sites and some that were sent to Elder Bob in E-Mails.

How many of these did YOU know about?

A sealed envelope - Put in the freezer for a few hours, then slide a knife under the flap. The envelope can then be resealed.   (hmmmmmm..)

Use Empty toilet paper roll to store appliance cords. It keeps them neat  and  you can write on the roll what appliance it belongs to.

For icy door steps in freezing temperatures: get warm water and put Dawn dish washing liquid in it. Pour it all over the steps. They won't refreeze. (wish I had known this for the last 40 years!)

To remove old wax from a glass candle holder, put it in the freezer for a few hours. Then take the candle holder out and turn it upside down. The wax  will  fall out.

Crayon marks on walls? This worked wonderfully! A damp rag, dipped in baking  soda. Comes off with little effort (elbow grease that is!).

Permanent marker on appliances/counter tops (like store receipt BLUE!) rubbing alcohol on paper towel.

Whenever I purchase a box of S.O.S Pads, I immediately take a pair of scissors and cut each pad into halves. After years of having to throw away rusted and unused and smelly pads, I finally decided that this would be  much  more economical. Now a box of S.O.S   pads last me indefinitely! In fact, I  have noticed that the scissors get 'sharpened'' this way!

Blood stains on clothes?  Not to worry!  Just pour a little hydrogen peroxide on a cloth and proceed to wipe off every drop of blood.   Works every time!  (Now, where to put the body?)  LOL

Use vertical strokes when washing windows outside and horizontal for  inside  windows. This way you can tell which side has the streaks. Straight vinegar  will get outside windows really clean.  Don't wash windows on a sunny day.  They will dry t oo quickly and will probably streak.

Spray a bit of perfume on the light bulb in any room to create a lovely light scent in each room when the light is turned on.

Place fabric softener sheets in dresser drawers and your clothes will smell freshly washed for weeks to come. You can also do this with towels and linen.

Candles will last a lot longer if placed in the freezer for at least 3 hours prior to burning.

To clean artificial flowers, pour some salt into a paper bag an d add the flowers. Shake vigorously as the salt will absorb all the dust and dirt and leave your artificial flowers looking like new! Works like a charm!

To easily remove burnt on food from your skillet, simply add a drop or two of dish soap and enough water to cover bottom of pan, and bring to   a boil on stove top.

Spray your TUPPERWARE with nonstick cooking spray before pouring in tomato based sauces and there won't be any stains.

Wrap celery in aluminum foil when putting in the refrigerator and it will keep for weeks.

When boiling corn on the cob, add a pinch of sugar to help bring out the corn's natural sweetness

Cure for headaches: Take a lime, cut it in half, and rub it on your forehead.   The throbbing will go away.

Don't throw out all that leftover wine: Freeze into ice cubes for  future use in casseroles and sauces ........  Left over wine? What's that?

To get rid of itch from mosquito bites, try applying soap on the area and  you will experience instant relief.

Ants, ants, ants everywhere ... Well, they are said to never cross a chalk line. So, get your chalk out and draw a line on the floor or wherever ants tend to march. See for yourself.

Use air-freshener to clean mirrors. It does a good job and better still, leaves a lovely smell to the shine.

When you get a splinter, reach for the scotch tape before resorting to tweezers or a needle. Simply put the scotch tape over the splinter, and then  pull it off. Scotch tape removes most splinters painlessly and easily.

Now look what you can do with Alka Seltzer........

Clean a toilet.

Drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets, wait twenty minutes, brush and flush. The citric acid and effervescent action clean vitreous China

Clean a vase.

To remove a stain from the bottom of a glass vase or cruet, fill with water and drop in two Alka Seltzer tablets.

Polish jewelry.

Drop two Alka Seltzer tablets into a glass of water and immerse the jewelry for two minutes.

Clean a thermos bottle.

Fill the bottle with water, drop in four Alka Seltzer tablets, and let soak for an hour (or longer, if necessary).

Unclog a drain.

Clear the sink drain by dropping three Alka Seltzer tablets down the drain followed by a cup of Heinz White Vinegar. Wait a few minutes, and then run the hot water.
